Terms of Use
Last updated: 14 June 2026
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of RootyToot at rootytoot.app — a sustainability social network for growers, food-resilience communities, and regenerative living across Aotearoa New Zealand.
RootyToot is operated by Vector Group Charitable Trust (registration CC45966) and built by Te Puke Digital. By creating an account or using RootyToot, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy.
1. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account, unless a parent or caregiver has agreed to your use.
- You must provide accurate registration information and keep your login credentials secure.
- You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
- We may suspend or remove accounts that breach these terms or harm other members or the community.
2. About the service
RootyToot provides community spaces to connect around growing, kai resilience, permaculture, events, courses, and related topics. Content is community and educational in nature — not commercial, financial, legal, or professional agronomy advice. Apply what you learn thoughtfully on your own land and seek qualified help when needed.
3. Your content
User Content means information and material you submit to RootyToot (posts, comments, photos, events, listings, messages, profile fields, and similar). You are responsible for your User Content and for having the rights to share it.
You retain ownership of your User Content. You grant Vector Group Charitable Trust a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, display, reproduce, and distribute your User Content on RootyToot and connected programme surfaces (for example public workshop or course listings that link back to RootyToot) solely to operate and promote the network and VGCT kai-resilience programmes. You may delete much of your content through the platform; some copies may persist in backups for a limited time.
We are not obliged to back up your User Content. Make your own copies of material that matters to you.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use RootyToot to post, upload, or distribute content that:
- Is unlawful, harassing, abusive, threatening, defamatory, hateful, or discriminatory.
- Is pornographic, exploits minors, or is otherwise harmful to young people.
- Infringes someone else's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights.
- Is spam, malware, phishing, or deceptive misinformation — especially about food safety or growing practices.
- Promotes violence, illegal activity, or dangerous instructions without appropriate context and warnings.
You also agree not to:
- Scrape, harvest, or collect member data without consent.
- Interfere with servers, security, or other members' use of the network.
- Create automated accounts or bulk actions that degrade the service.
- Attempt unauthorised access to accounts, data, or admin areas.
We may remove or restrict content, disable features, or terminate accounts that breach this policy, in our reasonable discretion.
5. Other members and third-party links
RootyToot may contain links to third-party websites, tools, and programme hubs (including sites in the Kai Resilience and VGCT network). We do not control third-party sites and are not responsible for their content or practices. Other members are solely responsible for their own posts and interactions. We are not obliged to mediate member disputes, though we may intervene where safety or these terms are at risk.
6. Programme listings and sync
Selected public events or course listings created on RootyToot may be referenced or synced to connected VGCT programme websites (for example Food Resilience School NZ or Kai Resilience) with a link back to RootyToot. Only programme administrators perform this sync. Keep visibility settings accurate if you do not want material shared beyond RootyToot itself.
7. Intellectual property
RootyToot's name, branding, software, and site design are owned by Vector Group Charitable Trust, Te Puke Digital, or their licensors. These terms do not grant you ownership of the platform — only a limited right to use it as a member. Do not copy, reverse-engineer, or commercially exploit the service without our written permission.
8. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use personal information. It forms part of these terms.
9. Disclaimers
RootyToot is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by New Zealand law, we disclaim warranties that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for every purpose. Growing, food handling, and community activities carry real-world risks — you are responsible for your own safety and compliance with local rules.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by New Zealand law, Vector Group Charitable Trust, Te Puke Digital, and our volunteers, contractors, and agents are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of RootyToot, member content, or third-party links. Our total liability to you for any claim relating to these terms or the service is limited to NZD $100 or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (if any), whichever is greater. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot be excluded under New Zealand law.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Vector Group Charitable Trust against reasonable claims and costs arising from your breach of these terms, your User Content, or your misuse of RootyToot, except to the extent caused by our negligence or breach of these terms.
12. Termination
You may stop using RootyToot at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms or if we discontinue the service. On termination, your right to use the platform ends; sections that by nature should survive (content licences already granted, disclaimers, liability limits, and governing law) continue to apply.
13. Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a new date. Material changes may also be noted on RootyToot or by email where practical. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the revised terms.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. You agree to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts. If you have a concern, contact us first — we will try to resolve it in good faith before either party takes formal action.
